RITA M. KASPER WHITING, IN / ILLINOIS Rita M. Kasper, 75 of South Elgin, Illinois, formerly of Whiting, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Providence, St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin, Illinois. Rita was the beloved daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Latiak) Kasper and was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Menzl and Margaret Pearson and three brothers, Edward, Joseph and Eugene Kasper. She is survived by her niece and caregiver, Judy (Menzl) Klen and by many cherished nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 10:30AM at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Jerome P. Stack, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:00AM to time of services. Rita Kasper was born on July 11, 1940 in Whiting, Indiana, and was a longtime resident of the Whiting- Robertsdale Community. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the St. John Rosary Society, and had sung with the St. John Adult Choir. Rita enjoyed music, and you could often find her singing as she played her beloved organ. She was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School and was a retiree of St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. Rita also loved to travel, and particularly enjoyed her vacations in Hawaii. As a devoted animal lover, she shared her home with various dogs and cats over the years. Rita will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
