ANNIE MURRAY Obituary

MURRAY--Annie. Actress and mother, 92. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Annie trained at RADA in London. She settled in New York with her first husband Donald Moffat and two young children. They joined Arthur Lithgow's repertory companies in Ohio and at McCarter Theater where Annie inhabited great roles with vivid intelligence-- Rosalind and Beatrice, the Shrew, Hedda Gabler, and Miss Julie. Her second son was born in her marriage to Jeep Kuhn. For four decades Annie worked in regional theaters from Seattle to Cincinnati, from Manitoba to Minneapolis; in her later years, she played an electrifying A in Albee's Three Tall Women and a sympathetic E.A. Ashford in Wit. Annie was a restless life force with many talents and passions. She was a keen gardener and excellent cook, water colorist and teacher, devoted friend, Buddhist, reader of books for the blind, political canvasser, and a funny, energetic and eccentric mother, grandmother, and great-grand- mother. Her loving children Wendy Moffat (Donald Kaufman), Gabe Moffat (Molly Ruttan) and James Kuhn, grandchildren Lucy, Emma, Devon, Sydney and Kelci, five great-grandchildren and sister Mary Riveland survive her.

I JoAnn used to room with Ann Murray. For years,Ann was trying to get me involved in acting. And I turned it down, for several reasons. But Ann was a very sweet, and lovely person. Ann always thought,we were on a train. And one time I felt like roping Ann back to,our room.
