BARBARA LEVEY Obituary

LEVEY--Barbara K., age 92, passed away at Mt. Sinai Hospital on September 22, 2024. Barbara was born in New York City March 14, 1932, grew up and spent most of her adult life on the Upper Westside. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Allan L. Levey of 71 years (October 30, 2022), her parents Emanual Spier and Dorothy (Wasserman) Spier, her brother and his wife Ira and Anja Spier. Barbara's surviving family members are her son Kenneth, his wife Yuko, granddaughter Alexis, cousin Sue Eldredge and nephews Steven and Jonathan Spier. Barbara had a passion for art and design and for many years operated a Manhattan interior decorating business - Barbara Spier Design. She loved to travel with her husband Allan and secured many unique pieces of art on their extensive global excursions. She was an avid reader, and a daily task was to complete The New York Time's crossword puzzle. Barbara was an active volunteer at Lennox Hill Hospital in Manhattan and served patients over decades, she was a compassionate person and during the initial stages of the AIDS epidemic Barbara fearlessly severed in the AIDS ward, when it was shunned by most volunteers. The family will hold a memorial service in the future.
