DAVID LUKE Obituary
The Trustees, Faculty, students and staff of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory mourn the passing of David L. Luke III. David joined the Board of Trustees in 1986 and championed fundraising in celebration of the Lab's 100-year anniversary in 1990. He served as Chairman from 1992-1997 and was elected an Honorary Trustee in 1998. David is remembered for his keen interest in securing the financial future of CSHL and his outstanding abilities as a spokesperson who communicated the latest in biology and genetics research to friends and colleagues in the business community. Together with his wife Fanny, David was a strong supporter of plant biology and genome sequencing technology. Under his chairmanship, the Lab built the CSHL Genome Center in Woodbury and in 1999 welcomed the first class of Ph.D. candidates to the Watson School of Biological Sciences. I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Luke, III passing away. I worked for his company for thirty five years. He and his brother, John treated us like "family". He was loved by many. My deepest sympathy to his family.
