DAVID LYONS

LYONS--David J. December 6, 1930 - February 27, 2024. We honor the life of David J. Lyons, a prolific university administrator who specialized in economic planning. David passed away peacefully at the age of 93. His death was confirmed by his beloved wife of 33 years, Dr. Roberta Temes Lyons. David is also survived by his children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. He received his undergraduate degree and Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago. David went on to join The Rockefeller University in 1970 and retired after 26 years as the Vice President for Business and Finance in December of 1995. Throughout his professional career, he would amass honors due to his progressive thinking. Although he excelled in fiscal planning, David was also highly regarded for his kindness. In addition to his prestigious career, David served on American Skin Association's (ASA) Board of Directors as Treasurer for over 25 years. ASA is a nonprofit that has evolved over nearly four decades as a leading force in efforts to defeat melanoma, skin cancer and other skin diseases. ASA benefited immensely from his many years serving in the critical role of Treasurer. The organization is grateful for David's invaluable support and would not be what it is today without his fiscal vigilance, expertise, and guidance. In December of 2021, he retired from ASA's Board and received honorary Emeritus status. David was honored on his 90th birthday with a named medical research grant. In 2021, the first ASA David Lyons Medical Student Grant Targeting Melanoma and Skin Cancer was awarded. The entire Board and staff of American Skin Association, and all those who were fortunate enough to know him, grieve his passing. He will be deeply missed. Howard P.
