ERNEST SCALAMANDRE Obituary

SCALAMANDRE-- Ernest Auriel. Surrounded by family and friends, Ernest Auriel Scalamandre died peacefully on October 29, 2023 in Glen Cove Hospital. The cause of death was complications from an old injury. Born March 23, 1963, Ernest attended Green Vale School, St. Paul's School and Riverdale Country Day School. During summers while attending the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, he clerked on the New York Stock Exchange for Walter N. Frank and Company. After graduating in 1985, he worked in the commodities and futures department at Kidder Peabody. Always the entrepreneur, after only two years, he left to form Nest and Co, an equity derivatives trading company, based on the American Stock Exchange. Within a few years, he merged Nest with Kalb, Voorhees where for several years he worked as an options trading specialist. In 2000, he moved off the floor to found Pinnacle Asset Management, a discretionary commodity fund. After successfully selling Pinnacle, he founded Aurelian Capital Investment Management, a multi-strategy commodity fund. Ever since then, he has served ACIM as its Managing Member. Relentlessly creative, in 2018 Ernest acquired a parcel of land on the North Fork of Long Island, and, ever since, developed a thriving organic farm, that today offers boating and sporting opportunities. Indian Neck Farm was one of many novel ventures, including the chairmanship of Volt Live LLC, a live entertainment production business, noted for its original pyrotechnics. He also managed Sirocco Marine LLC, the largest rigid inflatable boat dealer in the United States. All these ventures remain testament to Ernest's wide-ranging passions and business acumen. Ernest was a gifted athlete, excelling first in football and wrestling, later in golf and racquet sports. In his youth he was a multi-year finalist in the acclaimed Punt, Pass and Kick competition. Inspired by warm memories of those times, he proudly served on the board of the Grenville Baker Boys' and Girls' Club from 2008 through 2013. Because of Ernest's bond to his grandfather, Ernie Vandeweghe, a member of the Order of Malta, he followed his example, proudly serving as a Knight to the Order. Ernest leaves behind his loving wife, Daphne Wilmerding Scalamandre, his two sons, Max and Kenner, his mother, Diane Scalamandre, his brothers, Nino and Franco, his stepmother, Katie Scalamandre, as well as many devoted friends and colleagues. He will long be remembered for the multitude of friends, his contagious sense of humor, and for spontaneous and often anonymous acts of kindness and generosity. The joy he brought so many will never dim. A service to celebrate the life of Ernest will be held on November 10, at 12:30pm at St. Dominic's Church, 93 Anstice St., Oyster Bay, NY 11771. There will be a reception immediately following the ceremony at Piping Rock Club in Locust Valley. In lieu of flowers, at the request of the family, please consider a donation in Ernest's memory to Glen Cove Hospital at https://give.northwell.edu/ glen-cove-hospital or Glen Cove Hospital, Administration, 101 St. Andrews Lane, Glen Cove, NY 11042.
