June 27, 1916 - April 3, 2008
Harry Lee Hansen, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at home Thursday, April 3, surrounded by family, friends and his beloved dog, Nala.
Harry was born in Hickman Mills, Mo., to Nels Peter Hansen and Sophia Fredericka Winther Hansen. Harry was the youngest of eight children and graduated from Union Point School.
He worked for a few years after graduation at various jobs, then joined the United States Marine Corps. He worked as a mechanic and served during WWII before being honorably discharged after five years.
Harry was devoted to his family and loved camping, boating, snowmobiling or anything outdoors with his kids.
Harry had many loves in his life, one of which was cars. He worked at the Indianapolis 500 racetrack testing tires for BF Goodrich and was also a member of Cale Yarbourough's racing team. Harry spent his whole life around cars. He owned several dealerships in Utah and Idaho and was involved in several local racing teams. He also was an avid NASCAR fan.
Harry also loved to fly. He earned his pilot's license in 1968 and spent many years flying all over the states of Utah and Idaho. In his later years, Harry managed a BMX racing team and was instrumental in building and managing tracks in Idaho, Nevada, Oklahoma and Canada.
Harry and Jeri opened their home to many needy children and will leave a loving legacy to all of them, especially Duane Reed, Tyler and Krista Malloy.
Harry was a devoted pet owner and was never without one of his pet dogs.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Geraldine "Jeri," his children, Cydnee Bixby (James), Cindy Davidson, Milo Ferrin (Connie), Evan Hansen (Lola), Byron Ferrin (Christine) Darwin Hansen, and Travis Lowry-Hansen, 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his seven brothers and sisters and a son-in-law.
A celebration of his life will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Prince of Peace Community Church in Adair Village. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to the Prince of Peace Benevolent Fund (Children's Education Fund) or to the Heartland Humane Society.
Harry will be laid to rest in Huntsville, Utah, at a date to be determined.
