HAROLD TANANBAUM Obituary

TANANBAUM--Harold. Harold Martin Tananbaum, born on April 3, 1938 in New York City, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Greenwich Hospital, after a short illness. Harold was raised in Harrison, NY and graduated from Harrison High School where he was Captain of the Varsity Golf Team. After New York University School of Business, he attended Fordham Law School. In 1961 he met Vicki Leeds Tananbaum, his beloved wife of 61 years. Harold was a quiet, elegant man who loved his wife and family unconditionally. While passionate about his business, classical music, exotic cars and golf, these were not the things that defined him. His ultimate devotion lay with his family and friends to whom he gave of himself with humility and without bonds. Harold's love was not just in words. For him, love was actionable in the deeds he did and in the way he treated everyone, regardless of their role or relationship to him. Harold emanated respect, honor, and an acute sensitivity to the needs of others. He was a highly regarded businessman. In 1976, he founded Greentree Toyota in Danbury, CT. Harold and Vicki shared their love of classical music at symphonies in London, New York City, and Edinburgh. The game of golf was their passion, and for 23 years they traveled widely in Scotland and Ireland playing as many OPEN courses as they could. They cherished the opportunity to play St. Andrews, Muirfield, Royal Troon, and Royal County Downs and so many more. In addition to Vicki, Harold is survived by his amazing children: Sandra Tananbaum Hart (Damon Hart), Maxwell Leeds Tananbaum (Beth Ann Alder) and Brenda Tananbaum, and grandchildren: Jared Tananbaum, Avery Tananbaum, Liza Tananbaum (David Romano), Byron Lane Hart and Sylvie Leeds Hart. For now, and for always, this sense of him and the loving gifts he gave will remain deeply embedded within those fortunate to be touched by his incredibly special soul. Funeral will take place Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00am, Temple Sholom, Greenwich, followed by a graveside burial. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Greenwich Hospital Cardiac Care, The ONS Foundation for Clinical Research and Education, and Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Words can not express the sadness I feel. Harold was a friend, mentor, golf partner, dinner companion. I will miss our conversations - and especially how he would always remind me of how lucky we are to have wonderful women (Vicki and Catherine) in our lives. Harold was one of a kind!! Rest easy, my friend.
