Janusz JACHOWICZ

JACHOWICZ--Janusz Zbigniew, of Bethel, Connecticut, died on February 8, 2022. Janusz was born on May 6, 1950, the eldest child of Danuta and Henryk Jachowicz in Pabianice, Poland. Janusz moved to the United States in 1981, making his home in Bethel in 1986 where he raised his family and remained until his death. Dr. Janusz Jachowicz obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Technical University of Lodz, Poland. During his time at Clairol and International Specialty Products, he specialized in polymer and cosmetic chemistry before conducting research in peptide/protein chemistry through his own company, Better Cosmetics, LLC. Dr. Jachowicz was a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cosmetic Science and Publications Committee of IFSCC Magazine. He was awarded the Polish Ministry of Education Award for his Ph.D. Thesis (1981), J. Ciaudelli Award for the best paper published by JSCC in 1991, and JSCC best paper awards in 1993, 1998, and 2002. He was also the recipient of the Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award, as well as, the Maison G. de Navarre Medal Award by the Society of Cosmetic Chemists for Outstanding Contribution to the Art and Science of Cosmetics. Janusz was known for his kindness, generosity and tireless work ethic. He had many interests which included traveling the world, photography, reading, tennis and skiing but his greatest passion was engaging with and learning about people. He was always interested in the lives and points of view of others and strived to always learn the stories of those who entered his life. Janusz is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jadwiga Jachowicz and three children: Tadeusz (spouse Elisabeth) of New York, Julia (spouse Faruk) of Virginia and Marta (spouse Christine) of Michigan, younger sister Joanna Jachowicz-Jeszka of Lodz, Poland, as well as, three grandchildren: Leon, Ruken and Lukas.
