No one is sheltered from the throes of cancer, not even one of the top oncologists in the field. Sadly, Dr. Marc Citron passed away from brain cancer. He was my oncologist for the past 15 years. He was my hero. Dr Citron was such a kind and caring person. He not only excelled at his profession, but treated his patients with such compassion and respect. During chemo treatments, he personally served each of us lunch. What doctor does that?! During my visits at ProHealth, if I had any health issues that were a concern, he would stop everything and personally escort me to the health office of what was ailing me at the time. Whether it was cardiology, orthopedics, gastro or pulminology...he would walk right up to the receptionist and get me in to see the specialist right away. He treated all of his patients with the utmost care. Even when Dr Citron was first diagnosed with his own cancer and had undergone treatments and surgery, he still insisted on working and seeing his patients once he was recovered. Things were so hopeful when he reported that the treatments were effective and he was miraculously in remission. But unfortunately the cancer had returned and sadly took his life. My heart is so thankful but yet broken for this incredibly special human being. My deepest sympathy to his patients and his family. Thank you, Dr Citron for saving my life and the lives of so many women with breast cancer...you will sorely be missed. ❤

I am 17 years clear of Breast cancer. It was 17 years ago when I met Dr. citron. I would speak of him often telling people did you ever know a doctor that would serve you lunch while having chemo. The answers were always no. I said my doctor Citron did. I just found out of his passing because I have an appointment tomorrow for a check up. I believe in God and I know he his in his care. I would sit in his office and my file was so big I would tell him is that all about me? His answer was that’s a good thing. I do not know if I will ever find a person, doctor, professional that would stand to his level. I will never forget you. May God take care of his family and love ones as he took care of us. Deepest feelings to know you will not be at the office tomorrow. May God keep you in the palm of his hand.

There are lots of good, even great, doctors in the world; but, few are exceptional. Dr. Citron was in a class all by himself. A master in oncology, yet humble and kind, he had a remarkable way of making you feel like you were his only patient; a way of making you feel that you mattered. That is a gift to be valued. And he was a gift to the countless women he helped cure. I hope his beloved family finds comfort in that as they grieve such a difficult loss. Our deepest condolences are with you. May he be at peace in the arms of God. Thank you, Dr. Citron. You will not be forgotten.

Dr. Citron was my rock through it all. I owe my life to this amazing “man of medicine” and I can say today, I am cancer free from triple negative with the BRACA 1 gene, thanks to his urging to be aggressive in the fight! Fifteen years later, I’m receiving those grand baby hugs... and what’s better than that?...May he enjoy a beautiful afterlife for he surely made my life on this planet not only prolonged but appreciative of every breath. You are my hero and will be sorely missed

It was 32 years ago that I met Dr. Citron. For 32 years he was my "go to" medical advisor and humanist. Dr. Citron led me through a complicated clinical breast cancer trial. His empathy, knowledge, compassion and willingness to provide medical assistance to my family during the years shall never be forgotten. His family was his joy. There is a big hole in my heart.

Carol and I were proud to know Marc as a good friend and a great human. When our son Michael was young, he was having an episode where his breathing was very labored. I was traveling for business. Carol called Marc at 11:30 at night. “I’ll be right over,” he said. He brought his stethoscope and gently crawled into Michael’s bed and lay here with him for what seemed like an hour to make sure he was OK. Years later, when Carol was diagnosed with breast cancer, Marc dropped everything and he and Chris drove into the city. Marc’s presence and compassion and brilliance made all the difference. Later, when we asked Marc if he would be Carol’s doctor, he replied: “It would be an honor.” I broke down in tears of relief, knowing there was nobody better to guide her treatment. Our hearts are with Chris, Leah, Evan, Adam and the rest of the family, plus all of Marc’s colleagues, co-workers, friends and patients. He leaves behind a gaping hole but also an amazing legacy of compassion, generosity, intellect and honesty that made the world a better place.

Dr. Citron was my doctor for 6 years. Being diagnosed with Breast Cancer is frightening. I was confident I found a great doctor.
Seeing him after he returned to work from his first diagnosis he said he had to come back because his patients were so important to him. I will miss chatting in his office. He loved talking about his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
My condolences to his family.

I am so sad to hear the news of Dr. Citron's passing. My deepest condolences to Dr. Citron's family, family and co-workers. As I walked in his office, as a young mom battling breast cancer, his smile calmed my fears and made me feel safe. His compassionate nature as a doctor was so refreshing ...he cared and it showed,. We will always be thankful for the excellent service he gave me, and the mentoring he gave our daughter entering medical school. Our prayers and blessings to all.

i met Dr. Citron almost a year ago when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. His knowledge, compassion, and humility have awed me in this past year. He would come out to the waiting area and escort me and my husband to his office, offering a beverage on the way. No ego. Just unparalleled kindness. I really could go on and on about this incredible man. During a difficult time, diagnosis and COVID the positive that has come from this journey for me is that I got to meet one of the most special human beings I have ever met. Our deepest sympathies to his beloved family and friends.

I worked with Dr. Citron through industry at Agendia. A true gentleman and professional we collaborated on a few dinners in which he invited our Chief Medical Officer to discuss data with colleagues. You could just tell how brilliant and compassionate he was. I was always just a little smarter after spending time with him. Rest in Peace, Dr. Citron. Well done.

Marc and I were a half year apart at Mumford. Despite being a grade ahead he was always respectful and was exceptionally well regarded at that still competitive school.
More recently, we’ve been oncology colleagues and in parallel he is universally liked and admired.
