OFELIA GONZALEZ Obituary

GONZALEZ--Ofelia. Repertorio Espanol is saddened to announce the passing of Ofelia Gonzalez. Ms. Gonzalez was the only actress to win an OBIE without ever having performed in English. In 1973, she joined the ensemble of Repertorio Espanol where she was renowned for her portrayals of the Lorca matriarchs. She excelled in long-running comedies, "Cafe Con Leche" and "Botanica," created the Heartless Grandmother in the world premiere of Garcia Marquez's "Innocent Erendira," and toured in "La Celestina" and "The Glass Menagerie" in a USICA-sponsored tour of Latin America. Repertorio offers its heartfelt condolences to her daughter, Jenny, and her granddaughters, Vivian and Betty.
