PENELOPE DAVIS Obituary

DAVIS--Penelope. Penelope Davis (nee Case), known to family and friends as Penny, passed away on August 12, 2025, in Flower Mound, Texas, at the age of 84. She was a devoted sister, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Born on December 9, 1940, in Providence, Rhode Island, to James H. Case Jr. and Elizabeth Wylie Webster, Penny was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Wendell Davis Jr. She performed with the volunteer-based Blue Hill Troupe in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas in New York City and later worked at Anderson's Book Store in Larchmont, New York, where she took great joy in helping young readers discover new books. Penny graduated from Emma Willard School, earned an Associate's degree from Pine Manor College, and studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. She married Wendell on May 17, 1969, and they made their home in Manhattan until 1982. During those years, she volunteered with the Chapin-Brearley exchange and was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club, all while creating a warm and loving home for their young family. In 1982, the family moved to Larchmont, New York, where Penny and Wendell were active in the United Way and members of the Larchmont Yacht Club. Penny was also a member of the League of Women Voters, and the family were long-time members of St. John's Episcopal Church. After retiring to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Penny and Wendell embraced a joyful life of community gatherings, tennis, and ballroom dancing. Following Wendell's passing in 2021, Penny moved to Flower Mound to be closer to her family, cherishing time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Wilbur and Virginia Hartung; their husbands, Joel and Chris; her son, Peter; and her grandchildren, Bryan and Caitlin Hartung.
