RICHARD FIELD Obituary

FIELD--Richard Doering. Richard Doering Field, age 83, died on July 28, 2023 from complications of Parkinson's Disease. He was the eldest son of Harold J. and Nancy Doering Field of Providence, RI. Dick had a distinguished career in banking and investment. He was a Sr. Executive Vice President of the Bank of New York Mellon in the consumer and commercial operations. During this time, he was also a Board Member of Mastercard International. Prior to joining BNY Mellon he spent 14 years in various marketing, sales and lending positions at Citibank and JPMorgan Chase. Upon retirement he became a founding director of Lending Tree. He served on the boards of Providian Financial Corp, HSPC, Circle Lending, Bank of Maine and Retirement Clearing House. In 2013 he became an active board member of the Parkinson's Foundation. He resided in Hobe Sound, Florida and was a board member of the Community Chest and on the Outreach Committee of Christ Memorial Chapel. Dick was the revered head of a devoted and loving family. He is survived by his wife Schuyler W. Field, his daughter Devon F. Pastor (Mike), son Richard D. Field, Jr. (Beth), his stepchildren Earle N. Cutler (Melissa), Peter K. Cutler (Whitney), and Katharine C. Coughlin (Read). He was affectionately known as Gripa to his 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers H. James Field (Janet) and Christopher C. Field (Rose). He had a strong bond with his sister-in-law, Margaret C. Holland. He was in the class of 1959 at the Salisbury School and served as trustee for many years. He graduated from Trinity College in 1963. Both schools instilled in him a love of a cappella singing. His collaboration in 1975 with fellow banker Bob Hardwick resulted in Field/Hardwick Productions that later became the Bob Hardwick Sound. During his life he had a passion for travel, trees and landscaping, skiing, theater and music. He was a diehard New York Rangers and Giants fan. He wrote wonderful letters. His kindness, thoughtfulness and humor will never be forgotten by family and friends. Donations would be appreciated in his memory to Richard D. Field Class of '59 Music Endowment at: salisburyschool.org A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
