This magnificent and disciplined soprano was a truly great artist. I have every RCA recording of her complete roles as well as several of her live Met broadcasts. She was a jewel of a soprano, and was an outstanding stage performer. Also, a gorgeous and beautiful lady. May she rest in peace and enjoy eternal life forever.

During this sorrowful time, words can't express the depth of the pain you are feeling. My hope is that God will bring you a measure of comfort and peace, as you recall all the wonderful memories you have of your dear love one. The first time I heard of Roberta Peters was when I was 12 years old and attended PS 161 in Brooklyn. Although I came from a blue collar family of modest means my parents had a collection of Oorea records and would play them from time to time. I could tell they loved them though they had never attended a live opera. Although I am told there were musicians in my father's family I have not been blessed with musical ability nor have my children.

Our music teacher was Miss Ott. I remember her as old, but that could have been a child's impression. She had light brown hair, very blue eyes and a gentle way about her. I remember her telling us how her father's favorite piece was Schubert' Serenade.

During this time Roberta Petes sang at the Mer. Miss Ott was very pleased that a young girl from NYC was singing at the Met. She proudly told us that her name w as Roberta Peters.

So many years later I remember this. That 12 tear old urchin grew up and a teacher, married and had a family. When Riberta Peters appeared at The Stanley performing Arts Theater in Utica I finally got to see and hear Her. I was thrilled and Indo not think my family appreciated how much the event meant to me. The clarity and beauty of her voice--- especially when she trilled "The Bells" Is a memory I shall treasure, always. Seeing her in person felt, somehow, that aInhad come full circle.

I am sorry to hear of her passing and that she suffered with Parkinson's. I hope it is some comfort to her loved ones that she touched the lives of those, not only who knew her but knew of her.
