ROWLAND MITCHELL Obituary
Lippincott, Ph.D., of Kingston, NY, 92, died December 2nd. Born in Longmont, CO. Grew up in Pomona, CA. Yale Class of 1944, on full academic scholarship. Served U.S. Army Air Corps, radio/navigation instructor, WWII. Earned Ph.D., at Yale, in American History. Was Associate professor at University of Michigan and. M.I.T. Staff Associate Social Science Research Council, N.Y.C., 1960- 81. Published "Mitchell Guides" to non-profit foundations. Scarsdale School Board 1972-78. Westchester-Rockland BOCES Board 1979-88. Member New York Metropolitan Opera Guild. Love of his life, wife of 48 years, Sarah Matteson Mitchell, M.D. died 2005. Memorial Service Saturday December 13th, 12pm Fair St. Church, Kingston.

Rowland was almost like a father to me. I spent every Christmas, summers at the Cape and many trips to the opera with Rowland and Sally and his son John. My life was changed by his friendship as was my spouse Scott Holderer.
