MR. JOE MASSINGILL Mr.Raleigh Joseph (Joe) Massingill, age 81, of Opelika, died Friday March 5, 2010, at East Alabama Medical Center. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 8, 2010, at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Reverends Joe Lay and Earl Ballard will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at Jeffcoat-Trant uneral Home and Crematory. Mr. Massingill is survived by his two daughters, osemary Massingill of Opelikaand Lee(Chip)Kesslerof Suwanee, Georgia; one son, Joey(Vicki)Massingill of Opelika; three grandchildren, Courtney(Brian)Massingill, Will Kessler and SamKessler;one bother, Sam(Trannie)Massingill of Fairhope, Al. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death in 2005 by Mary Massingill, his wife of 55 years. Joe was a long time resident of Opelika. He retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company as Corporate & Community Affairs Manager, serving a total of 37 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 43 years and was Chairman of several major church committees over the years. Joe was a member of the Opelika Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a former member of the Opelika Industrial Relations Board and the Opelika Chamber of Commerce. The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and suggests that memorial donations may be directed to Trinity Unity Methodist Church of Opelika or the United Methodist Children's Home in Selma, Al.
