Anthony Kennedy Obituary

Anthony "Tony" Kevin Kennedy, 74, of Washington, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 26, 2025, following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by love and compassion in UPMC - Washington, where he received exceptional care. He was born June 13, 1950, in Washington, a son of the late Anthony "Tony" Kennedy and Mary Ann Guido Kennedy. Anthony was a 1968 graduate of Washington High School. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy aboard the USS John F. Kennedy, as an electronic technician. Anthony retired from Jessop Steel. After his retirement he was a bus driver for GG&C Company, where he also taught classes. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of St. James Parish. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion Post 175, and Alpine Club, all in Washington. Anthony's pastimes included listening to jazz, watching Pittsburgh sports, and riding his Harley with his cousins and friends over the years. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could light up any room with his personality. He greeted everyone with kindness, and to know him was to love him. Anthony is survived by one brother, Gary V. (Teresa) Kennedy of Arlington, Va. He leaves behind nieces, Kristen (Michael) Murphy, Kelly (Brad) Thompson, and Stacy (Jon) Connelly; and a devoted stepson, Cody McAvoy, who Anthony took under his wing. Left to cherish his memory are many beloved cousins, great- nieces, great-nephews, friends, and his loyal companion and faithful dog, Hurley. A special thank you to cousins Beverly and Ira Baldwin for their unwavering love, support and assistance to Anthony over the past several years. Anthony resided at Southminster Place in Washington, a place he fondly considered his sanctuary. The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the director and staff for their kindness, dedication, and support during Anthony's time there. Their compassionate care brought comfort, dignity, and a true sense of home to both Anthony and his loved ones during his final days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Francis J. Kennedy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, in Immaculate Conception Church of St. James Parish, 119 West Chestnut Street, Washington. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Everyone is asked to meet at 9:15 a.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, to proceed to the church.
