Catherine Grubor Obituary

Catherine Mary Grubor, 90, of Weirton, W.Va., passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017, in Laurels of Steubenville (Ohio) nursing facility.
Born April 8, 1926, in Slovan, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary Matesic.
She had a diverse working background. During World War II, she worked in a defense plant making airline gunner turrets and tank camouflage nets. She also worked at Vimco Macaroni Factory and was a waitress at Klines Seafood Restaurant and a seamstress at Bobbie Brooks Clothing Factory to name a few.
She was a longtime member of and very active in St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church in Weirton. She belonged to the choir for many years and its Christian Mothers, for which she served as president twice. She also taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine Sunday school for 13 years and was a liaison for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, W.Va., for three years. In addition, she served as den mother for the Cub Scouts for three years and vice president of the local Association of American Retired Persons chapter.
Although she is sadly missed by those she leaves behind, they are thankful her suffering is finally over and she is reunited with all her family and friends who have gone before. Loved ones take solace in their faith she is happy with their Lord, who has always been important in her life and the source of her strength. They celebrate her life and her going home.
Deceased are her husband of 54 years, Mike; son Mark, who died at the age of 48; eight older siblings, George, Sam, William, John, Susan, Ann, Clara and Mary; and younger brother Joseph.
Surviving are her daughter, Darlene Grubor of Pittsburgh; son Michael (Marian) Grubor of New Cumberland; grandchildren Richelle (Joshua) Brinkley and Melissa (Matthew) Cravitz; and three great-grandchildren Megan, Alexander and Adeline Rose. In addition are two very special friends, Linda Vance of Pittsburgh, whom she referred to as her "adopted daughter," and Cindy Thomaselli of Follansbee, W.Va., a friend of her son Mark who stayed close to the family after he passed away.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, in St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Anthony G. Thurston will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.

Dee, I have fond memories of the Q at the AB and Abilene. Sorry you've lost your mother. Mine died about a year ago. Impossible to replace a mom. Take care. I know you've had your own health issues. Whenever I see your name I recall the funny times and hope the best for you.

Dee, I am so sorry to hear about your mother's death. Though I never met your mother, you always spoke of her in your annual Christmas letters. She led a truly Christian life. And you were a dedicated daughter. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. May she Rest In Peace.

Darlene & Michael, My wife and I would like to express our sincere condolences for the loss of your Mom. Aunt Catherine was such a delightful person. She radiated warmth and thoughtfulness. I fondly remember my visits to see her and Uncle Mike. They were two truly loving people. May they be forever reunited. I'm sorry that we can't be there for the service. We're sending our love and best wishes from Brooklyn.

Darlene & Michael Please know how sorry we were to hear about your mom's passing. I loved the times when I stayed with with Aunt Catherine & Uncle Mike in the summer. They were wonderful. All those many years ago she taught me how to crochet and bake. She was expecting you (Darlene) and I remember the fun of reading from a list of names and their meanings with her while she was trying to decide on a name for you. May she rest in peace.
