Darrell Grable Obituary

Darrell Wayne Grable Jr., 77, of Concord, N.C., passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025, in Huntersville, N.C., following a lengthy illness. Born November 23, 1947, in Washington, he was the oldest son of the late Darrell Grable Sr. and Romaine Considine Grable Duskey. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1965, where he played baseball. He went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Bethany College in 1969, where he was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He served with pride in the United States Army Reserve's 630 Transportation Company from 1969 to 1975, achieving the rank of Private First Class (E-3), and was honorably discharged. Darrell enjoyed a long and successful career in sales. After beginning in insurance, he spent many years in manufacturing sales with firms including Tri-State Engineering, AVM Corporation and Adrian Fabricators, rising to regional leadership before retiring in 2008. As a younger man, Darrell enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and gardening, as well as traveling to places such as Austria, Guadeloupe, and throughout the United States. He was also an avid golfer and Pittsburgh sports fan, and he loved hosting large gatherings of friends and family for his "Carolina Open" golf tournaments and for NASCAR race weekends, where his irreverent humor and infectious enthusiasm helped bring those he loved together for decades. He is survived by his loving daughter, Ashley Grable of San Diego, Calif. and son, Darrell (Mia) Grable III of Ellijay, Ga., both of whom he shared with friend and former wife, Ellen (Jeffrey) Emory of Bolivia, N.C. He is also survived by sister, Kathleen Meighen of McMurray and brother Clyde (Kimberley) Grable of Davidson, N.C., along with many friends and several cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 25 in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. A private service will be held Friday, September 26, followed by interment in the Washington Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.piattandbarnhillfh.com. I remember Darrell as the older brother of my classmates Clyde (Chup) and Kathy at North Franklin Township School and Trinity. So sad to learn of his passing.
