John Nairn Obituary

John Patrick Nairn, D.M.D., devoted husband, loving father, adored grandfather and loyal friend, died quietly Tuesday, August 22, 2017, surrounded by his children.
He loved reading, golfing and being the most caring, gentle dental professional, who was beloved by his patients. He took exceptional pride in his grandchildren and a home overflowing with warmth and love. During his 84 years of life, he always placed his family first, serving as an example of remarkable faith and exceptional love to those around him.
Born the youngest child of Alphonsus Joseph Nairn and Anna Ruth Ryan, Dr. Nairn moved often in his younger years, finally settling in Punxsutawney in 1945. At Saints Cosmos and Damian High School, he met the love of his life, Rachel Antionette Sarafite. They married August 6, 1955, while Dr. Nairn was enrolled at University of Pittsburgh.
While an undergraduate student, he was granted early admittance into University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and graduated in 1957. Upon graduation, Dr. Nairn served as a captain in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Ga.
Dr. Nairn and his wife settled in Washington a few short years later. Dr. Nairn practiced dentistry in Washington for over 50 years and was an active member in numerous dental associations. When he was not with family, Dr. Nairn's practice and patients were his passion until he retired at 81. Dr. Nairn was also a member of several golf clubs, where he enjoyed playing golf with his friends. Dr. Nairn was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church and more recently, Saint Hillary Church, both in Washington, where he reinforced his high morals and strong faith.
Dr. Nairn is survived by a daughter, Dr. Sandra J. Nairn of Moorestown, N.J.; two sons, Dr. John P. (Denise) Nairn Jr. of Fox Chapel and Dr. Gregory A. (Elizabeth) Nairn of Venetia; six grandchildren, Matthew John Raphael Nairn, Caroline Rachel Connors, Isabella Marie Nairn, Sarah Marie Connors, Rachel Mary Nairn and Andrew Joseph Nairn; and two sisters, Anna Ruth Pepper of Gibsonia and Laura Jane Winters of Jeannette.
Preceding him in death are his wife, Rachel Antionette Nairn; brother Alphonsus Joseph "Joe" Nairn; and sister Mary Patricia Platt.
A private family ceremony and private Mass of Christian Burial are forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn., www.stjude.org. Arrangements are under the direction of Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenue, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Dr. Nairn was an important person in my life. I was his patient as a young child and he encouraged me to pursue a career in Dentistry. I will be forever grateful for the path he led me to has been wonderful. He was very kind and caring and I know he will be sadly missed by his family and friends especially his son Greg who has followed in his Dad's footsteps.

I was told that St. MICHAEL is a good golfer. However, he does have an advantage with the course Owner so keep your head down, aim straight, and a few Hail Marys thrown in will help.
Enjoy paradise, John.♡☆♡☆

I am very saddened to hear of the passing my Uncle John. He was such a brilliant, sweet, and kind man. As he has left this earth and ascended to heaven, may God put him in a special place where he can watch over his children and grandchildren throughout their lives. My heartfelt condolences go out to you all.

Sending prayers to all of you. Dr. Nairn was my dentist and my friend. When I think of him I will always remember his smile and gentle voice. Although the office was always busy, he never rushed through my visit. You knew that you were his first priority. After all our smiles were his billboards! Thank you Dr. Nairn for helping me keep my smile... You will always be in my heart and I will treasure the times and laughs that we shared. May God wrap his loving arms around you and grant you peace.
