Justin J. Tiano

1924 - 2024

Justin J. Tiano, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully, in his home, Saturday, August 17, 2024, one month short of his 100th birthday. He was born September 26, 1924, in Washington, a son of the late John B. and Saveria Candalese Tiano. Justin attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School and Trinity High School. He retired in 1987 after a 41-year career in the glass-making industry. Justin had been employed by Hazel Atlas Glass, Brockway Glass and Ball Glass. He was a member of the Glass Bottle Blowers Association Local 66, and was frequently voted by his fellow union workers to represent the local union at the national convention. He also owned, with his late brother, Alfred, rental property on Chestnut Street in Washington. Justin was proudly seen wearing his Bollo hat around town. He would pull a picture out from his wallet of him in his youth and proudly show it to some ladies he may have just met with the comment, "Look how handsome I was!" or "Promise not to fall in love with me!", which of course would elicit a smile from his new friends. He was a dedicated Notre Dame and Steelers football fan. Justin never missed a Notre Dame television or radio broadcast in 75 years. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and was a member of the Alpine Club. Justin loved to play the Pennsylvania Lottery and would ask, "What was the three digit number last night?" no matter where he was. On July 26, 1953, he married Marie Trozzo in Mendicino, Italy. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marie; his children, Dr. John Tiano (fiancee Donna Tidwell), Justine (Mark) Coticchia, Denise (David) Aloia of Washington, and Albert (Anne) Tiano of Johns Creek, Ga.; his grandchildren, whom he was very proud of, Justin (Pam) Tiano, Alan (Kelly) Tiano, Nina (Mike) Bowden, Kerra (Mike) Protich, Nicole Tiano, Kali Aloia, Miranda (Andrew) Litten, Mackenzie Aloia, Marina (Stefan) Pavlovic, Vincent (Emily) Tiano, Madison Aloia, Cassie (Alex) Baker, Heather (Justin) Nixon, and Hannah Shelton; and 12 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elaine, who sadly passed away too young at the age of 2; four brothers, Joe Morosco, Tony, Albert and Alfred Tiano; and four sisters, Rose Stewart, Matilda Comito, Frances Steinberg and Theresa Tiano. Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, August 22, in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenue, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, owner / supervisor, S. Timothy Warco II, director, Holly Renay Warco, director. A prayer service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, August 23, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish, 119 W. Chestnut Street, Washington. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Notre Dame Mausoleum.
