Merle R. Williams, 74, of Waynesburg, died at 5:35 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2021, at home, after a 9 year battle with Inclusion Body Myocitis.
He was born Monday, July 29, 1946 in Washington, a son of the late Mervin I. Williams and Manelva Holden Williams.
Mr. Williams lived most of his life in Greene County. Merle was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waynesburg. He was a member of the Greene County Country Club and the Washington Elks Lodge #776. He had been President of the Waynesburg Chamber of Commerce, he was a part of the allocations committee, and he was involved with UNICEF and many more associations within the community. He loved golfing and spending time with his family and friends.
He was a veteran, having served with the US Navy during Vietnam. He retired from Alltel in 1995 as a supervisor, having served for over 36 years.
His wife, Diane Seitz Williams, whom he married on March 25, 1972, survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Shelly Pfeninger and fiancé Jonathan Webb of Waynesburg; three grandchildren, Ryan Pfeninger and fiancé Chelsey Moore of Waynesburg, Summer Pfeninger of Washington, and Jaylyn (Adam) Pfeninger of Calgary, Canada; and one great-grandson, Parker James Pfeninger of Waynesburg.
Deceased is one son, Mark R. Williams.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, Owner/Director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, with Rev. William Parker officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn and Gardens, McMurray.
The family suggests memorials be made to The American Cancer Society, Pennsylvania Division, Southwest Region, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205. Information is online at www.milliken-throckmortonfh.com.

Merle was a truly wonderful person. My thoughts are with Diana and his family at this time.
Oh, what wonderful golf trips we enjoyed together. The times of our lives!!
