Sylvia D. DeFilippo, 90, of Canonsburg, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024. She spent the last two years of her life residing in Monessen, at the Hallsworth House Assisted Living Facility, where she moved to be closer to her family. At Hallsworth House, she became part of a whole new family and received heartfelt care. She was born on May 22, 1934, in Hollidays Cove, W.Va., daughter to the late Frank and Irene Rodighiero. It was her pride and joy that her parents had opened and run the beloved "Tiny Store" in Canonsburg, which actually doubled as her childhood home for many years. Sylvia was known for her love of family and her passion for traveling the world. What she may have loved more than the travel was sharing the stories and pictures of what she saw and who she met on her adventures. She enjoyed entertaining and was always the "hostess with the mostess". Her recipes will live on in the hearts and kitchens of many friends and family members who cherished those weekly Sunday dinners. She enjoyed being the faithful business partner to Joe, whether he was building homes, running the Bona Vita Restaurant and Lounge, tending to their various rentals or any other of the business adventures that they dreamt up together. She worked as a legal secretary for Goldfarb, Posner, Beck, Dehaven and Drewitz until she retired. She was a devout Catholic and member of Saint Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg. She loved the outdoors, her days of being a Girl Scout Leader and was a contributor to an endless number of social causes and charities. Sylvia was the beloved wife to the late Joseph A. DeFilippo; devoted mother of the late Ianne DeFilippo, the late Kim Patterson, Joseph (Vanessa) DeFilippo and Amanda Butler; loving sister to the late Joan Prince; proud grandmother to Brian (Gia) Patterson, Christopher (Angel) Patterson, Kiyana King, Demetrius Butler, Christie DeFilippo, David Weiser, Zachary and Cody (Erin) Catalina; and blessed great-grandmother to Isabella and Brian Patterson, Aubrey Woods, Cameron Mancuso, Myana King, the late Nino Catalina and Lorenzo Catalina. She will be dearly missed by countless friends, family, former co-workers and loved ones throughout the area. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, 724-746-1000. A Mass of Christian burial will be held in Saint Patrick Church, at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 30. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Please visit
