Eileen Spurrier Obituary

Eileen Adye Spurrier died peacefully in her sleep on June 24, 2017, with her husband and children by her side. She was born May 22, 1925, the daughter of Wallace and Opal Adye in Newtonville, Indiana. She graduated from high school in Rockport, Indiana, and later with Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Indiana State University.

Eileen was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur and Dr. Wallace Adye, Jr., and sister Alice of Evansville, IN. She married James D. (Doug) Spurrier, a fellow studen at Indiana State, on October 21, 1949, in Terre Haute, IN, and would have celebrated their sixty-eighth anniversary this year.

She is survived by her husband; her daugher and son-in-law, Jamie and Rotie Smith and their triplet sons, Hunter, Spencer, and Maxwell, all of Houston; and her son Eric and his daughter Tracy and son Christopher.

Eileen became a victim of polio at age twenty-seven and, although physically handicapped, she raised two children and participated in all their growing-up activities such as school, scouting, athletics, and others. She held administrative and executive positions in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Oklahoma, having moved due to her husband's corporate occupational moves. Her last position was Assistant Director of the Eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas Planned Parenthood chapter in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She retired in 1993 and she and Doug moved to Humble, Texas, in the Atascocita area in 1998.

A celebration of Eileen's life will be planned for a future date.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, it is suggested that a donation be made to a charity of choice.

Terre Haute to Tulsa. What a great lady! We spent many hours talking about life when I should have been painting house trim. Always a treat to spend time in the Spurrier home growing up. She will be missed by her family and friends.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to Eileen Spurriers family. She was a lovely lady and always so nice. My grandmother, Olive Ferguson always enjoyed visiting with Eileen when they were in Evansville visiting The Adye families.
