Milton Wayne Bennett, 77, of Oakhurst, Texas, died November 20, 2016. "Mickey" Bennett, son of Joe and Alice Bennett, loving husband of Linda Stokes Bennett, passed away peacefully at his home in Oakhurst surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Ronda and son and daughter in law Larry and Rachel. He is also survived by his "grandbabies" Garrett, Cole, Gavin, Dillon and Dawson, great "grandbabies'" Krissie Kay, Cole, Jr., and Levi.
Mickey was a pipeline welder, owner of Bennett's Grocery and a Mason for over 50 years of Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 37 A. F. & A. M. in Coldspring, Texas. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hog hunting, deer hunting and fishing. Mickey is well known for his legendary tall tales, compassion for his fellowman and strong love for his family. Mickey was a baptized member of the Oakhurst Full Gospel Church.
Mickey was a welder for Tennessee Gas which allowed him and Linda to travel in many states of the U.S. He and Linda married in 1961 and together raised a family.
Due to health and economy Mickey closed "Bennett's" Grocery around 2009 having opened the store in 1982 in Oakhurst. Mickey loved talking to whoever stopped by and was the person who knows much. He never met a stranger and never held his opinion back on anything. He was the one who always would give to a person in need. Countless numbers of people were blessed and honored to consider Mickey a friend.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 22, 2016 5:30PM to 8:00Pm at Oakhurst Full Gospel Church, Oakhurst, Texas and funeral services will be Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 11:00AM at the church. Interment will follow the service at Raven Hill Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 37 A. F. & A. M.
