Mona Cole Obituary

Mona Lee, 92, of Cleveland, Texas passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2015. She was born in Buffalo, Texas (Freestone County) on Monday, May 28, 1923 to Frank and Bertha (Goad) Brown. She married her "Pen-Pal", Luther Cole, in Teague, Texas on August 11, 1940; that union lasted 61 years till his death at 87 in 2001. In the 30's, along with her Dad and siblings, she performed on the radio in Waco; they were exceptional singers and musicians. Mona was not only a beautifully talented singer who could sing in alto, soprano, tenor, and even bass, but could yodell like none other and could play "by ear" any instrument you put in front of her. Mona was also a great athlete and loved playing ball and watching her Houston Astros. She was a loving wife, and mother but, her greatest joy was being "Memaw" to her grandchildren and taking her older grandsons camping and fishing. As a young teen, Mona accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. In additions to her parents & husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Gloria Martinez Cole; sons, Marion, Jerry, Frank, & Carl Rex Cole; sisters, Bessie McCaig, and Alice Lively; brothers, Howard, Judd, Joel and Manley Brown. She is survived by brother Marvin Brown and wife Ruth; sons, Lou and wife Evelyn, Dwight and wife Laura, and Larry Cole; daughter, Diane Schroeder & daughter-in-law, Carla Cole; Grandsons, Troy, Chris, Mike & Matthew Cole, Greg & Chad Lucas; granddaughters, Theresa, Lesa, Tracy, Caren, Tanya, Ashley, Angela; numerous great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
