Nancy Margene Burroughs, age 70 of Coldspring, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017. She was born January 28, 1947 in Goose Creek, Texas to parents Elmer Jacob and Lillian Estelle Sirmon Schaeffer who preceded her in death along with her sister, Elaine Miller and "adopted son" Michael Hamelin.
Mrs. Burroughs graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1965 and then pursued a Bachelor's Degree in International Affairs from Texas Christian University in 1969. She was an officer on the Lee Brigadiers and was a competitive roller skater for many years. Nancy was a very active member at Coldspring United Methodist Church and served in several positions including Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Building Committee, Church Trustee and District Representative. Nancy was the "boss" at her husband's law office and served as the office manager for more than 40 years.
Survivors include her husband, Richard R. Burroughs; sons, Rory Schaeffer Burroughs and Jared Dale Burroughs and wife Lindsay; grandchildren, Stella Marie Burroughs and Blair Louise Burroughs; niece, Paula Kline and husband Grant; nephew, Brad Miller; great-nephew, Cade Kline; "adopted" children, Michelle Strommer, Jason Maresh, The Blankmeyer Bunch, The Breeden Clan, The House Boys, Stacy Anzick, Larry Wooten, Dustin Hasselgren, Caroline Weisinger, Marion Manthey, Lisa Millard and Tracy Galloway; God children, Dawson Franklin, Kayla Looney, Ramsey Anzick. She was a surrogate mom to all her children's friends and had numerous other relatives and friends.
Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Coldspring, Texas. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Coldspring United Methodist Church, Coldspring, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Coldspring United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the Church Building Fund.
