Margaret (Peggy) Mary McAndrews, a Kingwood resident for 40 years, passed away at her home on Friday, August 11, 2017. Peggy was born February 10, 1932 in San Francisco, CA to the late James and Hazel Reilly, was raised in San Francisco and graduated from San Francisco College for Women with a BS in mathematics. She worked for Shell Development in Emeryville where she and two other women were titled "computors" due to their specialized work. There she met her husband, Robert (Bob) McAndrews. Having to leave Shell due to the marriage, Peggy went on to work for Aerojet-General Nucleonics on the design of small nuclear research reactors before becoming a full time mother for her five children while teaching piano and guitar from home. Peggy is survived by her husband, Bob of 62 years; sister, Betty; brother, Jim ; children, Michael (Sandra), Thomas, John (Zaetun), Rebecca and Karen (Rodney); grandchildren, Michele, Jeffrey, Erik (Jessica), Muad, Asiyyah, Abigail, Rebekah, Noah and Jed. Peggy had a passion for volunteer work, contributing her time to many causes. In college, Peggy volunteered as camp counselor for disabled children. She went on to be involved with Girl Scouts, PTA, mental health organizations, meals-on-wheels, teaching ESL to Hispanic mothers at an inner city elementary school and spent many hours with Society of St. Stephen. One of her hobbies was writing poems about family and friends. She loved the outdoors, vacationing in the mountains and on the seashore, and especially loved traveling around the world. She was interested in languages; learning Spanish, sign language and, most recently, Chinese. Peggy had a lively wit and a beautiful smile with a gentle nature, but could be a fierce protector when needed. Most importantly, Peggy loved her family and friends. She truly was loving and compassionate with all people and will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Kingwood United Methodist Church with a reception following. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Society of St. Stephen at 2307 Crystal Springs Dr., Kingwood, TX.
