Mr. Berkel passed peacefully away in the home he shared with his surviving wife of 62 years, Loberta Marie Berkel, on Friday morning in Cleveland, Texas. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the American Legion, the Optimist Club and the First Methodist Church. He worked closely with NASA to develop satellite communication technology throughout his long career at RCA (later GE). In addition to his wife, he leaves behind one beloved daughter, Theresa Berkel, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. He was 82. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at First Methodist Church, Cleveland, Texas. Interment will follow at Pace Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens, Cleveland, Texas.
