RICHARD SHEROUSE Obituary

SHEROUSE, RICHARD C., 90
Ocala - Richard C. Sherouse, age 90, born January 26, 1924 in Lakeland, Florida passed away of natural causes on April 8, 2014.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army 8th Air Force, "The Mighty Eighth". He was a promoted to Tech Sergeant and was assigned the positions of Top Turret Gunner and Flight Engineer on a B17 bomber "Flying Fortress" named "Ice Col Katy." He flew 35 missions over Germany and was the recipient of an Oak Leaf Cluster, Decorative Air Medal, American Defense Medal, World War II Victory Medal and European, African and Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
After his Honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he and his family moved to Ocala in 1946 where he owned a plastering business for many years. In 1963 he attended the Mary Karl Vocational School in Daytona Beach, Fl where he earned a certificate in Architectural Drafting, after graduation he was employed by the City of Ocala Engineering Department as a draftsman. In 1980 he attended the Correctional Training Institute and completed intensive training program to become a Florida Correctional Officer and after completions of all this he received a job at the Lowell Men's Correctional Institution. He retired in 1995 and settled down to enjoy his retirement. He was a resident of Ocala for 68 years and attended First Assembly of God in Ocala.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Willie Mae Sherouse of 66 years. He is survived by his current wife Mary; sons Jack C. Sherouse, Ocala, Fl, Roy L. Sherouse, Anthony, Fl and daughter Helen E. Sherouse-Huhn Ocala, Fl; sister Freddie Mae Smith of Ocala, Fl, and a half brother David Coleman of Ocala, Fl. He is also survived by three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Ocala from 5:30 PM to 7 PM with a funeral service to follow at 7 PM.

Helen, Jack and Roy: May you have special memories of your father. He has lived a long and happy life and we will always remember you all coming to Knoxville, Tennesse where your mother was from. He is now with your mother and will continue to be with her for eternity. God bless each of you. We love you. Uncle Earl and Aunt Shirley.
