Annabelle Crooks Obituary

Annabelle Crooks

Annabelle Crooks, born April 2, 1913, in Hudson, Ohio, passed away peacefully at the Hospice Care Center in Fairlawn, Ohio, on April 16, 2003.

Annabelle graduated from Hudson High School in 1933; she met and married Henry Crooks, who had two sons, Raymond Crooks (Joyce) of Alexandria, La., and John Crooks of Akron, Ohio. Annabelle was the niece of Bell Dixon Wesley (whom the historical Wesley Temple was named after). Annabelle and her late husband, Henry Crooks, were the owners of the Famous Custard Stand on the corner of Edgewood and Euclid in Akron, which opened in 1950 and closed in 1970.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; brothers, John W. Smith (Akron), Irving Smith (Cleveland); sister, Elise Davis of Ypsilanti, Mich.; she leaves, to celebrate her passing, her devoted sister, Mary Mitchell of Hudson, Ohio; loving sister-in-law, Mae Smith; brother-in-law, Al Jay Abney (Margret) both of Akron; two stepsons, Raymond Crooks (Joyce) of Alexandria, La., and John Crooks of Akron; a devoted daughter, Bar bara T. Crooks, who stayed with her every step of the way; her beloved grandson, Kenneth Irving Crooks (Okelia) of Omaha, Neb.; granddaughter, Monique Crooks of Akron; nieces, Jean Roberts (Gilford) of Akron, Rosemary Gibbs of Hud son; six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews; a very special person, Wanetta Sherroll.

Gram, as she was affectionately called, was a true child of the King. She was a faithful member of Wesley Temple A.M.E. Zion Church of Akron, Ohio, where she worshipped until unable to do so due to health reasons. Gram loved her family and spoke of them anytime she could get someone to listen. Gram shared her love for life and all that Christ could do with everyone she came in contact with. She was an avid reader and enjoyed music. When you think of Gram you think of joy, someone full of encourage ment; there was nothing she felt was impossible as long as you believe. As she rests beside the quiet stream, at the feet of her Savior, we see her smiling face at peace and in pain no more. Gram, we will love you till the End of time, when we shall all meet on the shore, beside the streams of Eter nal Life. Rest in Peace, dear one, our Beloved. Love, your family.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Friday at Wesley Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, Rev. Dr. Curtis T. Walker officiating. Interment at Northlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 1264 Sunrise Dr.
