Avis Funk Obituary
Avis P. Funk, 72, passed away Aug. 5, 2003, surrounded by her family.
Born in Tunnelton, W. Va., Avis lived in the Akron area most of her life.
Preceded in death by her husband, Charles, she is survived by her son, Vance (Dana) Funk of West Virginia; daughters, Vicky (Glenn) Weyrick of Akron and Candy (Rick) Piper of Georgia; grandchildren, Doug, Vance, Jr., Brandon, Danielle, Drew, Allie, and Cameron; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carrie (Thomas) Funk of Atwater, Cora (Paul) Christopher, and Mary and Iris Funk, all of West Virginia; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral service Friday, 11 a.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, with Rev. Thomas Funk officiating. Burial at Hillside Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1900 W. Market St., Akron 44313. (Hopkins Lawver, Akron, 330-733-6271.)

We are shocked and saddened by the news of Avis passing. I had the pleasure of visiting with her at Rick and Candy's in Savannah just a couple of weeks ago. I especially enjoyed our chats on the back porch, and hearing all about her family, how she met her husband, how she ended up in Akron, and ofcourse about her kids and grandkids. I enjoyed her easy going nature and sense of humor. A couple of things that stuck with me, were mention of a son-in-law, I believe, that had taken special care of her, and how grateful she was for his time and caring, and a family rift that she wished would end. I hope that in her honor, one of her last wishes will come true. As Avis said, "Life is too short". Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. With deepest sympathy,
