Edward McDonnell Obituary

"TOGETHER AGAIN"

Edward J. McDonnell

(aka Nimisila Fats)

Edward J. McDonnell (aka Nimisila Fats) passed away March 24, 2004.

Born in Akron on Dec. 10, 1930, to the late Archie and Polly (Paul) McDonnell, Edward lived all of his life in the Akron area. He loved to travel with family and friends, and more recently he enjoyed his Greensburg "Class of '49" breakfast club. He enjoyed golfing and golfed in the 70s. If it was any colder, he wouldn't play. He was an avid Ohio State and (frustrated) Browns fan. He was known for his great sense of humor and his dedication to his family, friends, and God, but there was a special place in his heart for his grandkids. He retired from National Electric Coil, and was a faithful member of St. Martha Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a senior access volunteer at Ak ron General Medical Center.

Edward was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patri cia, in 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Sandy (John) Speicher of Stow; son, Ed (Margie) McDonnell of Akron; grandchildren, Danielle and Dana Speicher, and Kevin and Ryan McDonnell; brother, Michael (Arch) and Eleanor McDonnell of Green.

The McDonnell family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Heather Knoll and Akron General's ICU for their kindness and compassion.

Visiting hours will be Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m., at Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 936 N. Main St., Akron. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, 10 a.m., at St. Martha Catholic Church, 300 E. Tallmadge Ave., Akron, with celebrant Fr. Mike Matusz. Inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery on Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 1236 Weathervane Lane, Suite 300C, Akron, Ohio 44313. Our deepest sympathy to the entire family. I am so glad I recently got to tell Ed, how much I appreciated him being so nice to me though the years, especially when we were kids. I was the only girl and I was always tagging along with the boys, Ed,Arch, and my brother Jerry. He never once made me feel like I was in the way or a bother. I have such great memories of our childhood together and am grateful I got to see him last September before we left for North Carolina. Even though, it was a sad occasion,he made me feel very special when I walked in the room and he gave me one of his wide grins and a big hug. Of course,he had that affect on everyone. He was such a great guy and a true gentleman. Wherever he is now, I am sure he is with Pat and is cracking jokes. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

Mr Ed, I am really going to miss you! In many ways, you were like a Dad to me and I Thank the Lord for the time that He allowed you to be here with us. The life lessons that you bestowed upon me during the years at NECCO helped me become a better person and I am grateful for that. It was a pleasure to know you, Pat and the rest of your family. Save a place up there for the rest of us!

Love,

Bonnie
