In 2001, we were devastated to learn our 8 year old son had a brain tumor. We were introduced to Dr Bartkowsky that same day and put the life of our son in his hands. Dr B was able to remove all of the tumor and my son will turn 32 this August. We will alway be indebted to this wonderful man who saved our precious child.

We are so sorry to hear of the loss of this great man. He was our daughters neurosurgeon from 18 thru 1989. We hated to see him leave Columbus. He loved the children that he took care of and it showed in everything he did for them. I can remember him waiting to start surgery on Heather until I could braid her hair to limit how much he would have to cut off. He will always be in our hearts.

My nine year old son Wesley was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January of 2002. It was a devastated diagnosis and my huband and I were in shock. I'll never forget seeing Dr Bartkowski and his nurse Mary Sailor walk into the room. Although he didn't sugar coat anything,I felt right away we were in great hands. My son came through the surgery and Dr B. was able to remove all of the tumor. He did exactly what he told us he would and we are forever grateful to him. Our son Wesley is nineteen now and at the University of Akron getting a degree in Biomedical Engineering. God bless you Dr. Bartkowski.

To the Bartkowski family, please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Dr. Bartowski helped guide our family through what was possibly the most difficult year of our lives in 2009. Our daughter had seven shunt surgeries in 7 months. He met every complication and obstacle with professionalism and compassion. He was amazing with my daughter. At halloween that year she made us buy her surgical scrubs and a white lab coat and she went trick or treating as "Dr Bartkowski". She even made and ID badge with his name on it so everyone knew!! He will be missed.

I am very crushed when i herd the news. He saved my baby girl life more then once. Liddia damron was a 20 week perimee and only 14oz at birth. Also in 2009 she was dignosed with a diease called HLH and started chemo. He has done over 20 brain shunt surgeries to save her life. He was the only person who i felt comfortable doin my little girl surgeries. He was a angle from heaven, and will be grealtly missed!!!

I credit Dr. Bartkowski with saving my son's life. He was 11 when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I first met Dr. Bartkowski in the prep room in Children's Radiology. The first thing he did was hand me a box of tissues and told me what they found. He battled for every possible thing that would save my child, and I'll never forget him. My son will be 21 next month, and he will always remember two things: introducing Dr. Bartkowski to Sponge Bob and the way Dr. Bartkowski smiled when Peder told him his first joke post surgery.

I am so sorry for your loss. Dr. Bartkowski performed shunt surgery on my daughter the day after she was born, in April of 2006. During our hospital stay, Dr. Bartkowski was ALWAYS a welcome sight. I am extremely shocked to hear that Dr. Bartkowski has passed away. He is a major part for the reason why my son is alive today. My son was born 23 weeks premature and has had several surgeries done by Dr. Bartkowski. Each surgery he made sure that we, as parents, knew what he was doing to our child and always comforted us. I am truly blessed to have had a great doctor for my son, that actually cared about his patients. He will truly be missed and I will always have a great debt to him for saving my son's life and allowing him to be able to live a normal life.
My deepest sympathy,

To the Bartkowski family, I am sincerely sorry for the loss of your husband, father, and grandfather. I was associated with Henry through Trauma Services at the hospital. Henry left an indelible mark on everyone he spoke to and thus everyone admired him and treasured his friendship. He dedicated his life (and sleep) for our children. God bless you for sharing this wonderful person with us and his patients and may God, Henry, and family help you through the absence of this wonderful person.

We are so sorry for your loss! Our son is 10 and has been battling brain cancer for 9 years. Dr. Bartkowski removed all 4 of Joey's tumors over the years. A fallen HERO for sure. We are forever grateful for the amazing skills and the genuine compassion that Dr. B showered his patients with. He saved our son's life and no words can express what that feels like. It is clear by our interactions and the words of so many that he lived his life as a true example of faith, trust and obedience to God and he was an inspiration to many. We will miss his smile and seeing him in the halls of ACH when we are in for appointments. Our deepest sympathies to his family and our greatest thank you to them for sharing him with all of us and allowing him to be who he was to all of "his kids" at the hospital.

A man brilliant enough to save lives and soft enough to attend a little boy's birthday parties. Dr. Bartkowski really "got it". He understood what so many others do not.

Henry will always be remembered as my smart, super intelligent cousin who was so down-to-earth & had a great sense of humor. I will miss sending him his yearly birthday email & holiday greetings, which he always responded. The medical field was certainly blessed to have an outstanding pediatric neurosurgeon on its roster. For Ladonna, Chris, Rebecca, Chloe, Lindsay and his sister, Camille, I wish you heaven in your heart, starlight in your soul & angels in your life to guide you through this time. "This heavenly blue butterfly
will fly high in the sky,
higher and higher.
The sunlight will touch the blue
on its wings until it seems to disappear.
We think it is gone,
because the blue of the butterfly
is the exact same blue of the sky.
We think it is gone,
because our eyes are too weak to see—
and it is difficult to believe what we cannot see.
But the blue butterfly is not gone.
It is still flying, higher and higher,
nearer the sun. Blue against blue.
For now and forever."
