Robert McFarland, 78, passed away on September 18, 2014. Born November 10, 1935 in Cambridge, Ohio he was an Akron area resident most of his life.

A kind and generous man who never knew a stranger, he was known for his great sense of humor and penchant for mischief. Bob loved his family, John Wayne movies and cars (the older the better) and in his younger years there was always an old clunker in the garage in need of an overhaul. He retired from Ohio Edison in 1993 with 37 years of service and was a member of the Wayfarer Masonic Lodge 789, the Masonic Grotto, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and VFW Post 3383.

Preceded in death by his wife, Margie; and brother, Max; he will be dearly missed by his fiancé, Pat Smelko with whom he enjoyed many years of happiness; his daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Michael, Cathy (Al) Zinn, and Tammy (Ray) Cumberledge; grandchildren, Michael (Gina) McFarland, Sarah (Chris) McKee, Katy Zinn, Shawn and Raymond Cumberledge; great-grandchildren, Mattie, Samuel, Lily, Declan, MacKenzie, Jack and Harlie; as well as many other cherished friends and relatives.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to The Gardens of Western Reserve and their staff for the exceptional care Bob received while a resident there and for the kindness shown by them when the end of his life drew near.

Visitation will be held Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m.; concluded with Masonic services at 4 p.m., at Hecker Funeral Home in Uniontown, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Uniontown Greenlawn Cemetary immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Memory Care Unit of the Gardens of Western Reserve, 45 Chart Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223.
