Ruby Ellen (nee Rogers) Hopkins, age 94, went home to her eternal reward with the Lord, Thursday, November 1, 2018, surrounded by loved ones at her home.
She was born on July 19, 1924 in Preston County, West Virginia, the youngest daughter of John Robert and Ollie Minnie (nee Laymire) Rogers.
Ruby moved to Ohio with family friends as a young teenager and graduated from Atwater High School. It was there she met the love of her life, John Sheridan Hopkins. They were married on May 17, 1945 in Portage County, Ohio. They were happily married for 49 years until his passing on October 10, 1994. Ruby and John enjoyed traveling and visits to friends and family. They were important and she cared for them near and far. Ruby was a strong woman of God and her light shined as she selflessly served others.
Left to rejoice in her homecoming to the Lord are her children, Janet (Charles) Coghan, John (Kathy) Hopkins, Jim (Leonie Jeffery) Hopkins; six grandchildren, Brian Coghan, Kelly (Mark) Holderbaum, Nancy (Scott) Keenan, Kimberly (Ron) Griffith, Richard Hopkins, and Catherine Hopkins; four great-grandchildren, Audrey, Margaret "Maggie", Jack, and John Patrick. Ruby leaves many other beloved family and friends but will be remembered by us all as our "lovable little Ruby".
Other than her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her son, Danny Richard Hopkins; her brothers, Rex, Francis, Guy, and her beloved sister, Bernice.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Summa Hospice, especially to Meg, Adrienne, Stephanie, and Angie, all of whom have been a blessing to Ruby through her care.
A special thanks to Trudy C. for her compassionate night-time care.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Steels Corners Community Church, 3996 State Road, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44223, in Ruby's memory.
Ruby will be privately laid to rest at Atwater Cemetery alongside her beloved husband.
A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Steels Corners Community Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron.

Your mother walked a bit with me and my dogs one day probably more than a year ago. I'm not sure now what was special about our conversation, but I know that I always thought about her when my dogs and I walked by her house after that. I may not remember the conversation, but I remember she was absolutely delightful. I saw in her obituary that she was a faithful woman, and it made me very happy to know she is with her Lord now. My sympathies to you and your family. May you be filled with His peace, which transcends all understanding.
