Steve S. Fazekash, age 67, of Jackson Township, passed away very peacefully in the early afternoon of May 31, 2007 with his family by his side after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer's.
Steve was born in Stari Jancovci, Croatia on October 11, 1939. He grew up in St. Georgen, Austria before arriving in the United States with his parents, Anton and Eva, in 1955 coincidentally on the date of his future wife Carol's birthday. Steve became a U.S. citizen on July 31, 1964 and was very proud to be an American. He served in the U.S. army from August 10, 1959 July 31, 1965. He graduated from the University of Akron. For almost 23 years Steve worked for the Nestle Company in Strongsville where he was Regional Sales Manager. The calls from former colleagues during his illness meant so much to him.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol Fazekash; who lovingly cared for his every need at home during his "long goodbye" never giving up hope that a cure would be found. Also surviving him are daughter, Carmen Fazekash of Jackson Township; and son, Greg Fazekash and beloved daughter-in-law, Carol Gasper-Fazekash and their son Andrew Fazekash of Twinsburg Township. Steve is also survived by his mother, Eva Fazekash of Jackson Township; and brother and sister-in-law, Horst and Victoria Fazekash of Aberdeen, Maryland; as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Joe Norwood of Fountain Hills, Ariz. Bette and Edwin Letscher of Nazareth, Pa.; as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews and dear friends. Steve is pre-deceased by his dear father, Anton Fazekash, parents-in-law Joe and Gladys Blendenbacher, and sister-in-law Samantha Fazekash.
Steve had a wonderful sense of humor, always looking for a way to make someone welcome and to make them smile. He was a gentleman. He loved soccer, bear hugs, Peter Sellers in Pink Panther movies, and going for long drives with his wife, Carol, in their convertible to discover new places and best of all new restaurants. He was especially proud of his grandson, Andrew.
A private memorial service to celebrate Steve's life will be held at a later date yet to be determined. In lieu of remembrances, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (4815 Munson St. NW, Canton, OH 44718) to further research to find the cure, the paramedics of the Jackson Township Fire Department (7383 Fulton Dr NW, Canton, OH 44718) who always arrived quickly in his time of need, and Catholic Charities Adult Day Service West (59 Lincoln Way East, Massillon, OH 44646) where he spent time in adult daycare.
Special thanks to the dedicated nurses of Aultman's Home Health Care, Dorothy, Carolyn and Violet; and the many doctors who cared for him. Everyone that knew Steve admired and loved him. EH!- Steve's special way of saying "Goodbye" to the ones he loved. (Schneeberger 330-456-8237)

Our sympathies go out to the whole Fazekash family, especially our old friends Greg and Carol. May they find peace in the knowledge that Steve is resting peacefully far from the suffering that he endured through his illness.

Through the years we have become close to the Fazekash family by the flowers they have sent each other. We thouroughly enjoyed being a part of their celebrations with the flowers we arranged for them. We are so sorry and had no idea you were dealing with such an illness. May God send his grace upon you and hold you during this very difficult time. Love and prayers, All of us at Seifert's Flower Mill

We will forever remember Steve, before the darkness descended, walking in the light of his garden, the trees whispering delight at his passing, the flowers perking their bright petals toward the sun of their master's gentle bend, the water rippling applause. As we think on these images, so burnished in our mind's eye, we see His work here was done. The Good Lord, master of all needed his light and diligent countenance in the heavely garden. Thank you for being such a great neighbor, such a civlized human being. You elevated us all. The Kesslers

My prayers and love go out to the loving Fazekash family. What a wonderful parenting team Steve and Carol were to raise a daughter like Carmen. The room brightens when she walks in. She is a chip off the old block. He will be missed.

May God Rest Steve's soul and Grant him everlasting peace. May Steve's memory be eternal. I shall miss my wonderful, true friend and, of course, those famous bear hugs. Eh, Steve! Love you, Mary Kostas Anasson
