William J. (Bill) Heaphy Jr.

DUBLIN, OHIO -- William J. (Bill) Heaphy Jr. went to his eternal rest on April 17, 2016 at 90 years of age.

A resident of the Dublin Retirement Village and parishioner of St. Brigid of Kildare Church in Dublin at the time of his passing, Bill was born July 8, 1925 in Derby, Connecticut, the eldest son of Suntha Anna Cuneo Heaphy and William J. Heaphy, Sr. of that city.

He was preceded in death by his spouse of nearly 60 years, Alice Marie Shaughnessy Heaphy; and his only sibling, Donald Benedict Heaphy. Bill is survived by three sons, William Joseph Heaphy III of Columbus, Jeffrey John (Theresa) of Dublin, and Ronald David (Patricia) of Cromwell, Connecticut; by six Heaphy grandchildren, Daniel Patrick (Abigail), Matthew Kevin (Jessica), Megan Elizabeth, Gregory Scott (Kathryn), Jacob Ryan (Colleen), and Jenna Marie; and by great-grandson, Connor Harrison Heaphy.

A resident of Connecticut for 49 years and Ohio for 42 years (Munroe Falls, Cuyahoga Falls, and Dublin), Bill was a graduate of Derby High School, Derby, Connecticut (1943) and then served in the United States Navy during World War II, a veteran of two years in the South Pacific (New Guinea, Leyte Gulf, Mindoro, and Iwo Jima principally). He was awarded American Theater, Asiatic Pacific, Phillipine Liberation, and Victory medal ribbons as well as two bronze stars in Pacific Campaigns. Bill subsequently graduated from Quinnipiac College, Hamden Connecticut with a degree in accounting-economics in 1948 and attended the University of New Haven, School of Executive Development, West Haven, Connecticut (1960). He was employed by B.F. Goodrich in Shelton, Connecticut and Akron, Ohio for 38.5 years (1948-1987), where he held several financial executive positions.

Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church in Dublin, Ohio followed by A Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery at 3:45 p.m. in Akron, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls in Chicago, Illinois, or Dublin Assisted Living and Memory Support (6470 Post Road, Dublin, Ohio). I am very sorry to learn of Mr. Heaphy's passing. I am a Eucharistic Minister from St. Brigid and met him at our Sunday Communion celebrations at Dublin Retirement. He was an active participant and his presence will be missed. My prayers to his family and friends.
