Daniel Longwell Obituary

October 31, 1936 - May 14, 2011 HOUSTON Daniel Henry Longwell, age 74, joined our Lord on Saturday, the 14th of May 2011, after losing a hard fought battle with cancer. Danny was born on the 31st of October 1936, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from Catholic High in Baton Rouge in 1954 and from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Science in Chemical Engineering. Danny had over fifty years of experience working as a contract engineer providing specialized services to offshore oil and gas field development and construction projects worldwide. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers as well as the National Society of Professional Engineers. Danny was preceded in death by his parents, James Carver Longwell and Eleanor Longwell Goudeau; his stepfather, Joseph Norman Goudeau; his brother, James Carver Longwell; and his son, Clark Lawrence Longwell. Danny is survived by his son, Danny Jr. and wife Lisa Longwell of Houston; and his son, Jeff and wife Allison Longwell of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by his brother, Sidney Marshall and wife Seal Ann Longwell of Baton Rouge; sister-in-law, Cathy Longwell of Baton Rouge; and daughter-in-law, Kellie Longwell of Houston. He is also survived by six grandchildren whom he loved and adored: Shelby, Christopher, Meg, Molly, Joseph and Elizabeth. A memorial service is to be conducted at noon on Monday, the 16th of May, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 2020 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at a venue to be announced during the service.In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Danny's name be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123-1718. "Danny will always be remembered as a loving father, brother, son, uncle, grandfather and friend. In the years since I first met you, Danny, what stood out to me the most was the fact that once you had a friend you never, ever, forgot them. Just pure solid character of the highest order. You made a positive difference in the way a lot of people lived their own lives, and without asking for anything in return.
