I enjoyed serving with Stephen at Quantico in 1967 and 1968. He was known to us as "Pete" back then. He was a fellow NCO and could do an excellent rendition of Frank Fontaine (Crazy Guggenham from the Jackie Gleason Show) upon request. Rest in Peace, Pete, and Semper Fi!

I was honored to be a good friend of Steve for about 10 years. Words quite fail me in trying to describe all he means to me, as well as the many, many generous kindnesses both he and his wife Julie have bestowed upon me. I first met Steve at the Uptown Toastmasters meeting at the Boulevard Cafeteria, and he (and Julie) impressed upon me the kind of selfless encouragement that made him who he was and still is in my spirit.
In my mind, Steve was Toastmasters, and then our friendship went much beyond that, of which I am eternally grateful and thankful. He was a friend with whom I could share just about anything, and he had genuine care and concern, along with a highly developed sense of humor, of which we made great use!
Steve never met a stranger, either, and his warmth and conviviality showed itself when he would catch a stranger off guard with pure kindness and interest. Steve was more than a friend - he was the best kind of buddy a guy could hope for.
My prayers and best thoughts to Julie and the family. God bless.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. May your heart be filled with the wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. I, too, am a Toastmaster and have been in several club meetings with both Stephen and Julie. I think the first time I met them was at a meeting of the OKC P.R.O.S.. They were encouraging and sympathetic for first the visitor, then the new member. Stephen will be remembered forever for his kindness, his love of history, and his devotion to Julie.

Steve was a wonderful friend and mentor. I think his obit is modest in describing him. I recognized early in my career that my poor public speaking skills were limiting. Steve was tremendously helpful as the leader of my Toastmasters International chapter in OKC. Haven't talked to Steve since I left OKC in 1995, but think of him often. My condolences to Julie and the family.
