Samuel Jorris Obituary
La Grange
Samuel "Sam" W. Jorris, Sr. passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at Audubon Hospital after a month-long struggle with health issues. He kept his sense of humor and ability to banter with family and friends until a few days before his death.
Sam was born Oct. 20, 1945 in Louisville, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Sr., and Vera McFall Jorris; and brother, James W. Jorris Jr. (Peggy).
He is survived by his son, Samuel Wayne Jorris, Jr.; sisters, Ramona Hall (David), Oldsmar, Fla; Harriett Throgmorton; Carol Daugherty; brother, Peter Jorris (Heather), The Woodlands, Texas; and many nieces and nephews, who have fond memories of "Uncle Sam."
Sam was a Farrier by profession, working throughout Oldham County as well as other parts of Kentucky doing what he loved until his retirement. His love of horses began as a young boy, and much to the delight of the neighborhood children, Sam would bring a horse from a nearby farm and take every child that had lined up for a ride. As a young man, he participated in "Cutting" competitions throughout the area. Throughout his career he was affiliated with the American Farrier's Association, the Kentucky Racing Association, the American Cutting Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, the Louisville Polo Club and the Hard Scuffle Steeplechase.
Sam will be remembered and celebrated in the spring, when family and friends can gather in a safer, warmer manner.

We were so sorry to hear this sad news. We extend our deepest condolences to Wayne and all of the family. We always enjoyed Big Sam, his stories, and his sense of humor, and he enjoyed my bean soup and cornbread. He will be greatly missed by us and many others.
