Richard Riehler Obituary

OLEAN - Richard J. Riehler, of Alpine Drive, passed away Tuesday (March 10, 2015) in Lockport after a brief illness.

Born Nov. 27, 1923, in Allegany, he was a son of the late Anthony and Mary Riehle. On Sept. 6, 1947, in Allegany, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Langworthy, who passed away Oct. 20, 1997.

A graduate of Allegany High School, he served with the U.S. Army in World War II in the European Theater and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Dick was a truck driver with Olean Transfer and later Associated Transport and retired from Consolidated Freightways. He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, Olean American Legion and VFW 1619 and the Teamster's Local. Dick enjoyed St. Bonaventure basketball and was a handyman around his home.

Surviving are two sons, Richard C. (Rojean) Riehler of Olean and Michael A. (Michelle) Riehler of Lewiston; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Riehle and William Riehler; and two sisters, Elizabeth Lindsay and Patricia Riehle.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. Funeral Services will be held Friday (March 13, 2015), beginning with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Angels Church. The Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.

Memorials in his memory may be made to Niagara Hospice, Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.

Teresa and I extend our most heartfelt sorrow and condolences on the passing of your father, Richard (Red).

The loss of someone dear to us is never easy, but may you take comfort in the fact that you are surrounded by people that love and care for you. If there is anything we can do, please don't hesitate to let us know. May God embrace you both during this difficult time.

Ricky and Mike, I was so sorry to hear about your dad. Seems like just yesterday we were all together at the farm for birthdays and holidays. I have great memories of both your mom and dad. I was very lucky to have them as my Godparents.
