I think about you almost every day. I miss your jovious smile. You are in my dreams sometimes. I wake up sad though when I realize it was just a dream.
I talk about you to my 4 year old daughter, Lucy. I show her pictures of you. She asks if she can meet you. I tell her you are in the sky and that you are always around us. I know you have visited her. I just know it.
Sometimes I see the back of a strangers head full blonde hair, almost white hair with the deep reddish brown tan you always had. My heart stops. I cant breathe. I cant look away because Im so excited to to see your face. But then....the man turns around and my heart drops to my stomach...it is not you. But within those moments, I know its you that has sent a symbol that you are still with me.
You really made a dent in my life. I am so happy I had met you. If it wasnt for Mr. Cannons Psychology class and me borrowing pens, paper and your coat at times, we would never have crossed paths.
I will continue to love you from afar. I hope to see you in my dreams often and I hope you found your peace.

I have known Derek since he bagan working a Bulders. Some of the things that i am going to miss about Derek is seeing his smiling face im the morning, and every morning seeing him carry his bookbag with all the Derek gadets to help him get threw the day but most of all i well miss working with him. I've known Derek for about as long as he worked at builders supply. Some of the things I will miss about Derek is seeing him come to work every morning. Some mornings with a smile on his face, and some mornings with no smile, but Every morning carring a bookbag with all the Derek gagets that he had in his bookbad, to help him get through the day. I remember siting and talking to derek, and he was always happy. Never did he complain about doing anything that he had to do. This Husker football season of 2007 will be hard for me, because Derek and I both like the huskers. and I would ask Derek on football saturday "how do you think we will do today." he would always look at me and smile, and say "I think we will win" no matter who or where we played at. It was always the same answer.

I can't believe you you left us at such a young age. The past 4 yrs were a great time working with you and to have you as a friend was great. I have fond memories of the times we went out to party and the weird but crazy time at work when you would comment or laugh at the stupid stuff and weird things i said to get a reaction out of people.

I'm am deeply aggrieved to hear this terrible news. Due to circumstances in our respective families I didn't get to know Derek as well as a cousin should, I feel deeply regretful of this. To the entire Simon Family (and Derek's MANY friends);
As friends of Derek's we find ourselves in a wirlwind of feelings - cheated and angry that he has left us so soon; regret that we didnt talk to him and see him more often; most of all sadness because we didn't get to say our goodbyes - but at the same time, blessed that we had the opportunity to know him even if only for a short while.
We know that like us, you are all hurting; and unfortunately the pain will never really go away, but hopefully in time, it will become somewhat bearable and you will feel as if you can at least get through the day.
Until then, seek comfort from those who love you and those who are sharing in your grief.
More importantly, even if it hurts, talk about him often so that he continues to live on.

It really hurts to lose such a good friend we've grown up around since the "Holy Ghost". Keeping Derek alive through memories is what we will have to learn to do together, as family and friends become one under this sorrow. To the Simon Family
Derek was very great guy. In the five years that i worked with derek he was nice to me he treated people so nice never talked about other people. I did get to spend time with derek out side of work evan when not at work he was nice to everybody he was around. The funniest thing i remember about derekwas he always wanted me to load his truck for him but i always told derek to load his truck with his donkey that was on the back of his truck.

You were one of my best friends... Words cannot express how much I will miss you...
Yesterday... some memories of me and Derek's shenanigans came to mind and brought a big smile to my face; brought joy to my heart and made me laugh out loud.
Today... these same images flash in my mind, but there is no joy, just sorrow... Today I have lost a great friend. My smile is replaced by tears; my laugh replaced by sadness, regret, anger.
