John Innes Obituary
Age 76 - Mar 28, 2912
Son of Nevin and Frances (Ouren) Innes, grandson of C. Gregory Ouren, pioneer business man in Council Bluffs, died at home of cancer. John was born in Norfolk, NE; May 14,1935 and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1953. He attended ISU graduating March 1958 with a degree in Political Science. While at Iowa State he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Following graduation he was drafted into the Army and served 6 months active duty and 5 ½ with the Council Bluffs National Guard Unit. On March 30th 1958 John married Sara Oswald of Mason City, Iowa, whom he met at ISU. December of 1958 John started his career with Northwestern Bell retiring in 1991 as Director of Public Affairs- State of Minnesota for US West. His interest in political science continued throughout his lifetime. He also collected Lionel trains starting in 1944 with the money earned on his paper route delivering the Nonpareil in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After retirement, John and Sara returned to Council Bluffs from Minneapolis, MN. He served on the Pottawattamie County Civil Services Committee and was a member of AEOUS. John was preceded in death by his parents, step mother Lois Delk Innes and brother in law Andy Oswald. He is survived by wife Sara, his son Jim Innes, Minneapolis, MN. His daughter, Susan Innes of Denver, CO; and granddaughters, Lauren and Brooke Innes of Minneapolis, sister in law Pat Oswald, Mason City Iowa, nephew, Randy (Patty) Oswald, Fertile ,Iowa and niece, Annette (Rollie) Odonnell, Joice, Iowa and several cousins.
MEMORIAL SERVICE Saturday April 14, 2012 at 11am Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Pastor Chris St. Clair, Broadway United Methodist Church, Officiant. Luncheon and fellowship to follow at Cutler-O'Neill Walnut Hill reception Center 1350 East Pierce Street. In Lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials to Broadway United Methodist Church or charity of your choice. CUTLER-O'NEILL-MEYER-WOODRING

Sorry to read of John's Passing I was working for N.W. Bell when John came on board. I will never forget helping him out on a real cold day when he was having trouble with a job. He was very nice fellow. Sorry to have lost track of him.
