Susan Candee Obituary

NAPLES, FLA. >> Susan B. Candee, 66, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Oneida, passed away early Sunday morning, Nov. 27, 2016, in the comfort of her daughter's home, after a courageous battle. She was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was extremely proud and passionate about her family. She trusted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
Susan will always be remembered for her contagious happiness and positive attitude, her feisty zest for life, and her love for her family. She will never be forgotten. Instead little bits of her will continue -- in look-alike and think-alike family members, and in pieces of her heart and spirit that will be carried by those she touched along her journey. We love you always and forever, "from here to the moon and back."
Born in Oneida on Nov. 19, 1950, she was a daughter of James A. and Charlotte Snell Singer Sr. Susan was a resident of Oneida until 2012 when she relocated to Florida. She was a graduate of Canastota High School and Central City Business Institute. She married William D. "Butch" Candee Sr. in Whitelaw and they have spent more than 43 years together.
Prior to her retirement, Susan was employed with Oneida Limited as an executive secretary and managed the Oneida Community Mansion House. She was then employed by Oneida Health Care Center in Admissions.
While she enjoyed reading, playing cards, sewing and picking up a new hobby each year -- that she took the extreme -- her greatest joy was still her family. She would be happiest sitting around the table with a cup of coffee watching her children laugh and tell stories and watching her grandkids play.
She was survived by: her devoted husband Butch; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberley and Michael Relyea of Canastota and Kelley and Todd Hood of Oneida; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Candee of St. Petersburg, Fla. and William and Paige Candee Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; 10 grandchildren, Alexandra Evans, Michael, Kaitlyn and Jenna Relyea, Matthew, Joshua and Anna Hood, and Conner, Braeden and Kennedy Candee; her beloved dog and companion, Bella; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Terrance Bennett of Morrisville and Melanie and Joe Fiato of Bonita Beach, Fla.; two brothers and their spouses, James A. and Barbara Singer Jr. of Naples, Fla. and Michael Singer and Glenn Robbins of North Carolina; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim and Bih Candee of Florida, Ray and Kathy Candee of Oneida, Marie Zophy of Canastota and Edith Froelick of Oneida, Edie and Steve Olden of Canastota, and Sandy and Jason Piersall of Canastota, and James and Melissa Candee of Canastota.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016 at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida with Terrance Bennett, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:30-5:30 p.m., prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413. Thank you so much for all the kind words and prayers! We are so touched. My mother taught me about strength unlike I have ever seen in my life. Her will to live for us was just remarkable! I will take that with me for the rest of my life. This was my mothers most favorite time of the year. Cherish your families, like she did! We will continue to celebrate her. God Bless you all and Happy Holidays!

Uncle Mike, Aunt Kim, Mikey, Kati, and Jenna: I am so sorry for the hurt you must be feeling. Sue was a wonderful lady. Aunt Kim, I hope you take comfort in knowing that everything you did for your mom was so amazing. From the time she first got sick you cared for her with such strength, love, and compassion. You have been nothing short of an inspiration. I only hope that if my mom needs taking care of someday that I can be half the daughter you are. Love you so much.

Butch & Family so sorry for your loss I knew Sue most of my life when I lived in Oneida ! I remember doing the mail at the Mansion House. Sue would be in her office and she would come out every day to see if I needed any help with the mail there. She always had a big smile on her face and a friendly hello for you. I will miss seeing that smile !! But someday I know I will see it again so rest in Peace Sue & God Bless You !!!!
