David Allen Decklever was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the age of 78; he was in the comfort of his home in
Naples, FL, with his wife by his side. He fought a long, hard battle against cancer with a fierceness, will, and strength like no other, and his family takes comfort in knowing that he is now pain-free.
He was born on January 21, 1948, in
Osage, IA, to Glenn and Clyll (Wilder) Decklever. He grew up on a farm with his six siblings and graduated from Osage High School in 1966. He spoke of his childhood fondly and developed a strong work ethic, determination and perseverance that carried him throughout life. Soon after, he was drafted into the Army and served 15 months in Vietnam.
When he came home, he moved to Minneapolis, where he met Darlene Peterson, the love of his life. They were married February 6th, 1971, and shared 55 beautiful years together. They were blessed with 3 children: Chad, Tara, and Alicyn. Although he frequently traveled for work, he made every effort to attend his children's games and activities. His family was his pride and joy, and he was always there to offer guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support. Becoming a grandfather was also one of his most treasured roles, and he delighted in every moment he spent with his nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He spent his entire career in the agricultural business. He began as a buyer at Lindsay Brothers, but it wasn't long before he was offered a sales territory in Iowa, moving them to
Knoxville, IA, in 1976. Sales quickly proved to be his true calling. He later accepted a position with Ag Chem Equipment, where he started in sales and advanced to regional manager, a role that took the family to
Ft. Collins, CO, in 1993. Eventually, he became Vice President of National Accounts. In 2002, David and Darlene moved back to Iowa when he had the opportunity to become part owner with Heartland Ag.
Golfing was his passion. He enjoyed countless rounds with Darlene and dear friends, cherishing the camaraderie, competition, and time spent outdoors. He scored a hole-in-one six times in his lifetime. In 2013, they retired in
Naples, Florida, living in Cedar Hammock Country Club. He was able to enjoy retirement full of golf, travel, reading, and time with family and friends.
Over the years, he formed many lifelong friendships that he treasured deeply. He was known for his generous spirit. He gave freely of his time and resources, quietly helping others whenever he could. He was a rock to his family, his strength was admired. He loved his favorite "foursome", his faith, family, friends, and fairways. David will be remembered by all as a fighter, a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a loyal brother and friend, and a generous man whose impact will be felt for generations.
He is survived by his wife Darlene; his children: Chad (Angie) Decklever, Tara (Nathan) Carlson, and Alicyn (Aaron) Boehmer; his grandchildren: Hannah, Sam, Jake, Jack, Gage, Tyler, Ben, Alyssa and Brodie; his great-grandson, Zayden; his siblings: Ken (Pat) Decklever, Don (Sue) Decklever and Glenda Bahnsen. He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Clyll Decklever, as well as his siblings, Dean and Dale Decklever and Mary Nelson.
There will be a Celebration of Life, followed by a 19th Hole Reception, to honor him on March 14, 2026 at 4pm, located at the Cedar Hammock Country Club in
Naples, FL. A livestream will also be offered for those that cannot attend, and a link will be provided once available.
