James Marbut Obituary
A native and lifelong resident of Clarke County, he was the son of James D. "Jimmy" and Betty Marbut of Athens.
David was a 1991 graduate of Athens Academy and attended Georgia College in Milledgeville, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He owned and operated Georgia Tub and Tile Refinishers and was also employed with Kroger. David was a member of First Christian Church.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church with Rev. Patrick Chandler officiating.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Seabolt, Thomas Marbut, Richard David Marbut, Brad Bohannan, Kelley Minish and Matthew Munnell.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Erin Evans Marbut; and his children, Evan James Marbut and Virginia "Ginny" Elizabeth Marbut of Athens; brother, Kirk Marbut and his wife, Rhonda, of Marietta; grandmother, Marie LaCount of Grovetown; mother-in-law, Shirley Evans of Athens; father-in-law, James William Evans of Cashiers, N.C.; sister-in-law, Dr. Courtney Sinclair and her husband, Patrick, of Canton; brother-in-law, Jarrad Evans and his wife, Stephanie, of Greenwood, S.C.; nieces and nephews, Allie Grace Marbut, Grant Marbut, Neil Sinclair, Robert Sinclair, Carter Evans and Savannah Evans; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will also be at the residence of Jimmy and Betty Marbut, 224 Plum Nelly Road, Athens, GA 30606.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the James David Marbut Jr. Memorial Fund for his children, c/o First American Bank and Trust Company, P.O. Box 1688, Athens, GA 30603-1688; or any branch.
Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.

I was deeply shocked & saddened to hear about David's passing. I met him in the fall of 1991 @ Georgia College. He is one of the most admirable guys I've ever known. He was always so sweet & kind. He was such a great guy!!!! He will be dearly missed.

I only knew David a short time, but in that short time, but he struck me as such a wonderful person. I was shocked and saddened by the news of his passing. Erin, may God keep you during this difficult time. You know we are here for you when you need us.

We are shocked and so very sad! David transformed our old bathtub and we always chatted at Kroger's---ABOUT you, Erin, Ginny and Evan. I have never known a more adoring Dad and husband. We appreciated that he was so caring to our Jimmy and our heart hurts for all of you. He was a very special guy.

My fiance' Andrew Savage thought very highly of David. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting him, I know he was a great person. Andrew always talked about how wonderful David was to work with and what a great job he did.

David was a fine gentlman to work with for many years. Being a Kott Koatings Dealer in reglazing bathrooms and kitchens, he was an excellent example of what a energetic businessman should be. He was a part of the Kott Koatings family of dealers and was always a pleasure to talk with over the years. Always full of energy and always enthusiastic about his business and family. I was merely a shopper at the Kroger where he worked. He was also very kind and considerate and helpful...it is tragic to hear that he has died...and so young. I am keeping his family, especially his wife and young children in my thoughts and prayers..

I am thankful to have had the opportunity to grow up with David. He was a special member of our class of 51. He was such a sweet, kind, & loyal friend with a quiet, gentle, and generous spirit. He always exhibited great enthusiasm as he represented the spirit of the school through athletics, pep rallies, and other school activities. He was always the first to pitch in and help the class when called upon with a generous and kind heart.
He was admired by all of his classmates and will be dearly missed.
