Thelbert Wimpey Obituary

Ellijay - Thelbert Wimpey, age 85, of Tower Road, Ellijay, Georgia, died Tuesday evening, March 14, 2006 at the St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, GA. He was a member of the Ellijay Baptist Church, a graduate of Gilmer High School Class of 1939, a veteran of World War II serving honorably in the European Theratre of War, and a retired "oil jobber" of the North Georgia Oil Company, owned by the Wimpey Family since the late 1910's.
Funeral services will be 2pm, Saturday, March 18th from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Holt and Rev. Billy Dawes officiating. A Military graveside interment will be at Ellijay City Cemetery with military rites given by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Survivors include wife of 62 years, Edaine Bailey Wimpey of the home in Ellijay, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Ted Allen and Jane Knodell Wimpey of Burlington, Vermont and Dr. Terry and Brenda Wimpey of Athens, Georgia; grandson, Hunter Wimpey of Athens, Georgia; nieces and nephews. The family received friends Friday at 4pm the Logan Funeral Home and Chapel. Pallbearers: Rosier Wingate, John Wingate, Ray Wingate, Jim Bailey, Kenneth Bailey, Scott Sales, Hunter Wimpey and Edward Woodring. Music from the First Baptist Church of Ellijay. Logan Funeral Home and Chapel of Ellijay in charge of arrangements.

Terry:

I wanted you to know that Wayne and I are very sorry about Thelbert. We thought alot of him and will miss him. Sometimes it's hard to say things at the funeral home for getting so emotional. Hope you understand.
