Bill,
I'm sorry for the late entry. I just heard that you passed away. I'm sure glad I got to see you this summer before you left us. I feel so fortunate to have grown up during that “Father-knows-Best-Leave-it-to-Beaver" era and you were my "Mr. Wilson" to a young Dennis the Menace of the block; my wonderful neighbor who put up with my antics. I was so lucky that you were near. Although you had no biological son, you had a surrogate son in me (and the others you took into your home and helped along the way). Thanks for being the positive, happy, wonderful man who was a dear friend to my parents, especially my father. Thanks for getting the pole vault equipment for my back yard - you didn't have to do it, but you made a young kid quite happy. Thanks for being there for my father when he ran for office, allowing your wife Martha to campaign long hours away from home for the good of the community. Many in Stanton who never knew you benefited from your quiet sacrifice and Martha’s hard work. I know Martha was there for you until the end and I know how much you appreciated that, even if you couldn’t express it, because that was your wonderful nature. I will forever miss you, Mr. Bill, the big guy with the bigger smile, and the biggest heart of all. Your generation is quietly, stoically slipping away from us and the world will never be the same.
