Charles Moniack Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Moniack, a devoted family man, distinguished military veteran, and lifelong public servant, passed away on August 19, 2023, at the age of 91. Charlie was born on June 4, 1932, in Newport, Kentucky. He was the beloved spouse of the late Barbara Moniack, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

Charlie's legacy lives on through his cherished children: Deborah Marshall (Larry), David Moniack (Nancy), and Joann Moniack. He was a loving grandfather to Ashley Salazar (Joe), Caitlin Marshall, Chris Cowell, Amanda Velazquez (Richard), Cameron Moniack (Hailee), Abby Martinez (Daniel), and Christian Cowell. Charlie's great-grandchildren include Liam, Sophia, Ezra, and Scarlett.

Charlie's remarkable life was a tapestry woven with diverse experiences. He proudly wore the uniforms of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force, embodying his dedication to service. His journey included the Naval Reserve, active-duty Air Force stationed at Erding AFB, Marine Reserve, and Army Reserve with a cumulative military service record of 25 years. His dedication to his country was matched only by his commitment to education. Charlie earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati and his Master's degree from Rollins College where he went on to teach Criminal Justice as an adjunct professor.

Charlie's career also encompassed roles with the Cincinnati Police Department, the U.S. Treasury Department, and the Orange County Sheriff's Department. Though he was most proud of his instrumental role in establishing the Orlando office of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in 1969. His service extended beyond his professional life; he was an avid supporter of local food banks, contributing regularly to help those in need.

In addition to his distinguished career and military service, Charlie was an ardent family man. His deep love for his late wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was evident to all who knew him. Embracing life's simple pleasures, such as leisurely bike rides and the occasional indulgence at Taco Bell, brought him immense contentment. His legacy of integrity, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones and community will forever remain an inspiration.

To respect Charlie's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. He chose to make a lasting impact through the MedCure program, donating his body for medical research and education. His legacy will continue as he contributes to medical advancements that benefit future generations.

To honor Charlie's memory, consider making a donation to your local food bank or an organization that supports low-income seniors. His legacy of compassion and service will live on through the positive impacts made in his honor, including "Charlie's Angels," a food pantry being established in his honor in Kentucky.

In this time of loss, the family would like to express their deep gratitude for the outpouring of love and support. A heartfelt message from his niece sums up Charlie's legacy best: "I've never met a man with such integrity and love for his family. I will always remember him as the man I thought of when it came to service."

Charlie's memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Being a neighbor of Charlie´s for over 40 years had no idea what he accomplished in his life time Knew how much he loved his family and how much they loved him. What I remember was his sweet tooth and would take him some dessert whenever I had leftovers and his love of history. Will miss seeing him get in his truck at lunch time on his way to Taco Bell

I consider myself thankful to be a friend of Mr. Moniack´s daughter, Debbie. And I have gone through several tissues while reading his obituary and the beautiful comments from family and friends. I am inspired by him and now see clearly why Debbie is such an exceptional human being. In addition to having a wonderful mother, she had an exceptional father. I would have been honored to have known him, but did not have the pleasure. I offer my deepest condolences to his family.

We did not know Charles personally, but knew David and his Daughter in law Nancy since the '90's, as they are our neighbors. We still make men like Charles, but the country is a little weaker without him. RIP.

Dad,

You were an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and your life will be an example of service to others that we all will carry forth as we think of you.

I'm going to miss your wisdom and guidance but know that you've taught us well. As much as I will miss you, I'm comforted to know you're reunited with mom.

Until I see you both again.
